Central Webs - Web Site Development, Management & Hosting

About us PDF Print E-mail

With a knowledge of computers dating back to the 1970's with the introduction of Clive Sinclair's ZX 81, I have progressed through many technologies, languages, operating systems and software applications.

My involvement in the internet started in the mid 1980's back when it was evolving from ARPNET thanks to Tim Bernards Lee who gave us the www. internet.

Most people who use the Internet do not realise that it began in the late sixties as a result of Russia putting the communications satellite Sputnik into orbit, beating the United States into space.

In 1969, the Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) was formed by the Department of Defense to provide a network (ARPNET) that would survive a nuclear attack.

In 1972, ARPNET had 40 machines and an e-mail system. In 1973, UK and Norway joined the network making it international. In 1982 ARPNET interconnected all major educational and research networks using a common set of communications protocol (TCP/IP). This protocol started what become known as the Internet.

In 1984, there were only 1000 hosts, that number had grown to 100,000 by 1989

In 1989 CompuServe and MCI set up E-mail gateways opening the way for even more communications.

This also allowed the proliferation of discussion groups and listserves.

I got interested in this technology in the mid 1980's. In 1994 I decided to prioritise my knowledge primarily of the new emerging internet and specifically internet languages.

In 1998 Central Webs was born as a Website Design Company. By that time there were  33 Million hosts!

It rapidly became apparent that much more is required of an internet design company than simply design and build, including ongoing development, search engine placement and optimisation online retailing and content managed websites.

I now work with many other knowledgeable people and companies with our common themes mostly all being internet based as a result my business continued to expand.

Since Schooldays my hobbies have included photography and I worked for photographic companies for much of my early career, Polaroid and Carl Zeiss, consequently I embraced Photoshop when finally transferring to the PC platform. I am now expert rated in Photoshop as still enjoy creating digital imagery as a hobby.

I have always been careful to clarify what I do and do not do within the internet web development industry and I encourage you to have a look at my skill set
